As a Director of the Sequoia Healthcare District, I requested copies of grant applications submitted by e-mail. (The application forms are on the District website and they can be sent by e-mail).

Lee Michelson declined my request, and said he will share the applications with me AFTER the Grantees are approved.

Unfortunately, grant applications total $3.355 million, but there is only $1.35 million available in the budget. Perhaps you could help the Grants Committee choose the best? Or, write a big check? That family farm ought to be worth something.

The point is that we didn't approve the creation of the Sequoia Healthcare District to give away money to any of these programs.

It just shows you how difficult it is to get rid of a governmental agency, even when it no longer has a hospital!

I ask you to consider this:

If the Sequoia Healthcare District didn't exist, would you vote to create it to act as a tax funded "United Way"?

Voters who created the Sequoia Hospital District in 1946 Web Link and those who agreed to the sale of Sequoia Hospital in 1996 Web Link were not aware that the District would continue to collect property taxes originally assessed to support Sequoia Hospital. Web Link
