He must've had quite a sinking feeling as he waited ... and waited ... and waited for his wheels to touch down. I heard that one of the giant military cargo jets that land at Travis Air Force Base out at Fairfield once forgot to lower the wheels and had a surprise landing.

Pilot Training, in Georgia, in 1952 in a T - 6. Instructor in back seat. We are about to land.

I forgot to put the gear down. He waited until the very last minute and then yelled at me to do a go-around. And, upon landing, he yelled at me for another 30 minutes. Obviously, fifty years later, I have never forgotten this.

I guess there was no one to yell at the pilot in this Mooney M20J. He's lucky he didn't flip and kill himself.

I'm a little surprised the tower didn't notify him. I know it's not their job, just saying.

There may not have been anyone to yell at him, but there was surely a gear warning horn. Can't become distracted. Have to follow standard procedures and checklists. GUMPS
