Local kids who trekked through Nepal post trailer of their documentary on YouTube

Original post made by andrea gemmet on Jan 3, 2007

Local kids who trekked through Nepal and filmed their adventures have a five-minute trailer of their work-in-progress documentary posted on YouTube.com -- just search YouTube for "Himalayan High School." Or click here: Web Link

Kenny Meehan and Matt McCroskey of Menlo Park led a group of high school students, including some from Menlo-Atherton and Summit Prep, to villages in the remote Himalayas where they got to know teenage Nepali students.

To prepare for the trip, the group took photography and video classes at the Riekes Center in Menlo Park, and they hope their documentary, when it's finished, will get picked up by PBS stations and the film festival circuit.

An Almanac story about the trip can be found here: Web Link

Information about the Riekes Center, founded by Woodside resident Gary Riekes, is here: Web Link

Dear Ummm,

About half the students on the trip received need-based scholarships to cover their costs.
