I just looked at the recently released API results for the Menlo Schools on the California Department of Education website. Laurel, which was recently named a blue ribbon school, was no longer in the top 10% (which just about all the local Palo Alto, Menlo Park, etc. schools are), but is now in the 70% range (8th decile) and is in the bottom 10% of similar schools.
Since there's only one grade there that gets STAR tested, I realize this may be an aberration. Is this a squirrel-y class of kids (I know Oak Knoll's current 5th grade class tends to test low) or is something going on at Laurel? It seems bizarre that it's named as a National Blue Ribbon School at the same time that the results show it performing so badly on the STAR tests.
