Family Service Appoints Atherton Philanthropist Ed Seipp as Lifetime Board Member

Original post made by Katherine Chouteau, another community, on Jul 14, 2008

Ed Seipp, a retired, 90-year-old Atherton resident and major Bay Area philanthropist, recently was appointed as a lifetime board member by Family Service Agency of San Mateo County's Board of Directors. A member of Family Service's board since 2005, Seipp was selected for the honor due to his outstanding dedication to the nonprofit's mission of helping struggling Peninsula children, families and older adults build positive and productive lives. Family Service's Board of Directors inducted Seipp during the annual meeting in June.

Seipp's notable work for Family Service includes co-chairing its $7.5 million dollar building capital campaign, successfully completed in 2007, and advising the nonprofit on fundraising matters. Along with his wife Anne, a member of Family Service's Valley Auxiliary, Seipp has also hosted numerous fundraising events for the organization.

A graduate of the Chicago Latin School and Princeton University, Seipp worked for many years at General Electric under the mentorship of renowned businessman Ed Littlefield. Aside from having had an illustrious business career, Seipp has rubbed elbows with genius and danger throughout his life: he was once pulled out of a bush by Albert Einstein after falling off his bike at Princeton; and prior to WWII, he was mistakenly arrested as a spy in Czechoslovakia, barely escaping alive. Seipp and his wife are the proud parents of four children and grandparents of six grandchildren.

Regarding Seipp's appointment, Family Service President Laurie Wishard remarked: "Community leaders such as Ed Seipp are the foundation for the success of Family Service, which thrives thanks to the talent and generosity of local citizens. We are both grateful and thrilled to have Ed continue to help us move mountains and make a difference on behalf of Peninsula residents in his new role as a lifetime board member."

Located in San Mateo, CA, Family Service Agency of San Mateo County is a private nonprofit organization that for 57 years has helped children, families and older adults build positive and productive lives through the provision of programs and services.
