Son bitten by dog - trying to find owner!

Original post made by Jennie Bernheim on Jan 17, 2014

Help!

At 7:35 this morning, our son and daughter were walking on University Avenue between Rose and Valparaisao on their way to Menlo School. My son was bitten by a smallish white fluffy dog on a leash. He says the dog was shorter than his knees - he's 5 feet tall. The owner was a woman in a jogging clothes.

The owner stopped and was nice, apologetic, concerned, etc. but our kids forgot to ask if the dog's rabies shots are current. We are NOT upset about the dog or the bite, which is minor, but it did break the skin. We have no interest in causing problems for the owner- but we want to confirm that the dog is current on it's rabies vaccine.

The kids said they saw the same dog/owner yesterday morning (Thursday) - so this is probably a regular route. I"m sorry we don't' have a better description - after a full day of school, they've forgotten most of the details. agh.

Please spread the word and if you learn something, could you please call us at 650-213-9050 or email jjbernheim@yahoo.com.

thank you!

Have you contacted Animal Control at Peninsula Humane Society? They may be able to help you.

I suggest that you go out to that location with your kids at the same time one day next week. Wait for the woman to show up again. A dog owner should have been responsible enough to call 911 after an attack on a child (or adult), but that doesn't always happen.

@suggestion

Yes - thank you - it's the kids regular route to school so I will go with them on Tuesday (Monday is a holiday) and and see if we can find the owner. We will also talk with the crossing guard and ask the other Menlo kids who walk and bike to also be on the look out.

thank you.

Forget the dog. Call your doctor and get your kid whatever shots he needs. The sooner the better.
