Menlo Park School District Expansion- Idea Proposed

Original post made by Curious on Nov 3, 2006

Since the school district is in the process of considering how to use bond money and increase school sizes- and it seems like they will need more money than they are receiving- has anyone posed the thought of adopting unincorporated Menlo Park (namely the N. Fair Oaks neighborhood) to the district? Our kids would come together in High School at MA anyway.

In speaking with many parents of young children, we seem to be in agreement that we would gladly pay more taxes to be included in the public school system of Menlo Park. Encinal is our closest neighborhood school and at this point, many of us with children either send our kids to private schools or move when kids turn school age. The neighborhood is definitely changing and I am sure most residents- although I cannot speak for the masses- would support a tax increase to the school district in order to have a neighborhood school and our property values increase.

Just a thought...

I think the argument against annexing any of the remaining unincorporated areas of Menlo Park is that the tax base it would bring would not support the services the city would be required to deliver.

I wonder how that plays out for the other unincorporated neighborhoods of MP west of Alameda de las Pulgas since they attend Las Lomitas as opposed to Redwood City Schools.
