Holbrook Palmer Swing in the Park

Original post made by Laurel Timpson, Atherton: other, on Aug 30, 2009

Swinging festivities for children and adults will be happening at the Sunday, September 13th "Swing in the Park" fundraiser for Holbrook-Palmer Park. In its fourth year, this year's event celebrates the community's strong community support for Holbrook-Palmer Park and the realization of two projects that are part of the Holbrook-Palmer Park Landscape Master Plan. The success of prior years "Swing in the Park" events, other fundraising by the Atherton Dames and a state grant has made it possible to fund the Pedestrian Bridge which is affectionately referred to as the B.C.E. (Baby Carriage Entrance) and the Water Tower Garden. Much anticipated, the Pedestrian Bridge will open within a couple of weeks. The bridge will allow park users to more easily enter the park and it provides an improved connection to the town center and library . The Water Tower Garden project broke ground two weeks ago and already the changes seem remarkable. This garden will transform what was a lost space used for temporary parking into a lovely lawn garden surrounded by trees. Opportunities for formal or informal gathering, events and casual play can all take place in this new and novel park space.
