Eighth grader Andra Bailard took top honors in the eighth annual La Entrada Spelling Bee, held Friday, January 18th.
Sixty-four La Entrada students qualified to enter and a total of 48 spellers from all grade levels chose to participate in the Spelling Bee.
Missing words such as acquaintance, participle, desiccant, amethyst, parquetry, dialectician, penitentiary, epidemiologist, paraphernalia and rhododendron participants were eliminated after each round. The competition was tough and it took over 15 rounds to get to the final. In addition to Andra, three finalists representing 4th, 7th and 8th grades rounded out the winners. The top speller in each grade won a trophy and a Sugar Shack gift certificate. Congratulations to all champions!

Sixth grade teacher Wally Powell was the Spelling Bee pronoucer again this year and the judges included Eric Hartwig, Las Lomitas School District Superintendent, Pattie Dullea, La Entrada School Assistant-Principal, and school board member Jamie Schein.
