Writing the book on the school district
"The Story of Portola Valley Schools" is now a book.
The cover features a colorful drawing of the Historic School House, and inside are memories going back to as early as those of teacher Miss Mamie Shine, from 1887-1904.
Nancy Lund, Portola Valley town historian, delved into the history of the schools and wrote "Sesquicentennial Memories, The Story of the Portola Valley School District."
Its publication this week coincides with the community celebration of the district's 150th birthday on Sunday, Oct. 2, at Portola Valley Town Center.
Copies of the book, $20 each, will be available for purchase at the celebration's reception table. Proceeds will benefit the Portola Valley Schools Foundation.
Ms. Lund's earlier books with Pam Gullard are: "Life on the San Andreas Fault: A History of Portola Valley"; "Under the Oaks: 200 Years in Atherton"; and "History of Palo Alto: The Early Years."
Ms. Lund also played a lead role in writing "Centennial Memories: The Story of the Las Lomitas School District 1904-2004.
