Briefs: Valentine's Day comes early at Little House

Valentine's Day comes to Little House a few days early this year — on Thursday, Feb. 9, the activity center at 800 Middle Ave. in Menlo Park will host a dinner and dance.

Tickets are $12 for the dance; $18 for dancing and dining, with live music by the Jerry Jay Quartet.

Valentines, tube socks for local veterans

The Menlo Park Democrats will collect valentines and tube socks to donate to the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital on Sunday, Feb. 12.

Drop off donations at the farmers' market, located in the parking lot at the corner of Chestnut Street and Menlo Avenue, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Email menlo.commish.mueller@gmail.com to schedule a pickup at a different time.

Free admission to history museum

The San Mateo County History Museum now offers free admission on the first Friday of each month.

This month's displays focus on toys from the 1930s through 1950s. Long-term exhibits include an interactive display about local big-wave landmark Maverick's.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2200 Broadway St. in Redwood City. Admission on Friday, Feb. 10, will be half price.
