Around Town: Spring fashion show benefits Children's Health Council

The Children's Health Council Auxiliary will present its spring fashion show Tuesday, April 24, at the Menlo Circus Club, 190 Park Lane in Atherton.

Guests may shop in six boutiques outside the club, starting at 10:30 a.m. Among the vendors: La Biscotteria and Jewelry by Marjorie Van Antel.

A silent auction with champagne will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch. Auction items include six magnums of Joseph Phelps wine, a weekend stay at an Aptos seaside condominium, and a Carmel getaway.

The fashion show will feature spring clothing by Eileen Fisher and Cache of Stanford Shopping Center.

Admission is $100 per person for the fundraiser, which benefits the Children's Health Council. For more information, call Marcia Coy at 494-7216.

Garden club holds annual plant sale

California native, Mediterranean and kitchen garden plants will be among the many plants available at the Woodside-Atherton Garden Club's annual sale on Saturday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the native plant garden at Woodside Library, 3140 Woodside Road in Woodside.

The sale features hundreds of specimens, many propagated by members from their gardens or grown from seed, including unusual perennials, ornamental shrubs and trees, and foundation plants. There will also be a garden boutique.

Proceeds from the sale will be used for the library's native plant garden, which was planted by members of the Woodside-Atherton Garden Club after the Woodside Library building was completed in 1970.

The garden was designed by local landscape architect Jack Stafford as a gift to the town. For the past 40 years, garden club members have maintained and added to it.

'There With Care' opens local office

There With Care, a Colorado-based nonprofit that provides support services for sick children and their families, has opened an office in North Fair Oaks to serve patients at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford.

There With Care opened its office at 3475 Edison Way, Suite H, in January. The group is now serving pediatric oncology and neo-natal patients and their families at Packard and plans to expand service to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco and Children's Hospital & Research Center in Oakland.

The organization was founded in 2005 by Paula DuPre' Pesmen. She was inspired to start the nonprofit by several critically ill children she met while working as an associate producer on several Harry Potter films.

Michelle Chang is the executive director of There With Care in North Fair Oaks.

Training for new There With Care volunteers will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, and 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 26.
