Obituary: Robert D. Scoren of Woodside

Robert Donald Scoren, a resident of Woodside for nearly 50 years, died March 22. He was 81.

Dr. Scoren was a periodontist for 32 years, with offices in Palo Alto. He also taught at Stanford University and conducted research at UC San Francisco.

A native of Windsor, Ontario, Dr. Scoren studied dentistry at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in San Francisco. He later completed graduate studies in periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania and Boston University.

The family said his patient list included Robert Noyce, founder of Intel; Lucile Packard, for whom the children's hospital is named; and painter Georgia O'Keefe, who flew in from New Mexico to see him.

Dr. Scoren designed and curated an exhibition of his collection of antique toys at the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles. Creative expression captivated him, say family members, and he enjoyed sharing this in the folk art decor of his office, designing the interior of his daughter Holly's veterinary office, and in custom features in his Woodside home.

His other passions were playing tennis, listening to jazz music, and enjoying his family and his dog, Boomer, the family said.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa of Woodside; daughters Leslie Scoren of Mountain View and Holly Scoren Miller of Topanga; his first wife, Rita Joanne Scoren of Mountain View; and four grandchildren.

The family plans a celebration of Dr. Scoren's life for family and friends in May.
