Letter: Parent finds excellent care at Boys and Girls Club

Bookmark and Share
The article last week about the proposed merger of the Belle Haven after-school program and the Boys and Girls Club presented an impression of the Boys & Girls Club distinctly different from my experience.

My 12-year-old son has been attending the Club every day after school for the past five years. The Club is a wonderful place for him to go and release some energy in a secure, fun and friendly atmosphere. The staff is professional, approachable and helpful. I like walking in and being greeted by friendly staff. He does his homework every day for an hour. He also takes a tech computer class that he loves. The Club offers educational classes as well as fun sports that help the children build confidence and self-esteem.

The Club is a safe place for all children. My husband and I don't worry while we are at work. The Club coordinates transportation for my son and other Beechwood students between school and the Club.

I love the holidays at the Club. The staff provides an outstanding dinner for all the families. We sing songs and it's just a wonderful feeling. The site director gets turkeys for all the parents in need. He does that out of the kindness of his heart. I know the holidays are hard for a lot of families these days. The Club doesn't turn any child away and they always make everyone feel welcome. We are blessed to be a part of the Boys and Girls Club family.
