Letter: Why Ray Mueller for City Council?

Bookmark and Share
I recently read where the editor of the Daily Post wrote that Ray Mueller, who is a candidate for the Menlo Park City Council, can't support both pension reform and be supported by the union. What nonsense! That is the kind of narrow-minded, one-eyed thinking that creates gridlock: the Us versus Them mindset, the political disease that has infected our great country.

The editor went on to say it would be the kiss of death for Mr. Mueller's candidacy — more nonsense!

The first order of business of our local government is to be problem solvers, create a safe environment and create an environment that encourages growth for all its residents. To accomplish these complex and sometimes conflicting goals in a democratic society, we debate, we listen, we compromise and then we decide. In some circles compromise has become a dirty word; I refuse to accept it as such.

I will support Ray Mueller for City Council not because I agree with everything he says, but because he is secure enough in his own skin to look in all directions, studies the issues and listens. In other words, he wants to be a problem solver. Apparently, the people that are in the opposing camps (the reformers and the union) both realize that. I think that's a good thing.
