More parent parking at school
About 30 more parking spaces at Woodside Elementary School will be available to accommodate parents who need to park and walk their younger children into school, Assistant Superintendent Tim Hanretty told The Almanac.
This rearrangement of staff parking spaces was included in a recent proposal from Public Works Director Paul Nagengast to the Town Council that addresses the ongoing issue of vehicles illegally parked in the bike lanes on Woodside Road near the school.
The plan would generally ban parking on the north and south sides of Woodside Road between Canada and Miramontes roads, but allow parking on the south side when parents come to the school to pick up and drop off their kids. The signs could be covered with bags to allow parking for special events.
The school endorses the Mr. Nagengast's proposal, Mr. Hanretty said, adding that the school is "looking forward" to parking restrictions on the north side of Woodside Road. Clear bike lanes could encourage more kids to walk and bike to school, he said.
The Town Council is seeking parking alternatives from school parents ahead of its Sept. 22 meeting.
