Around Town: Local businesses help Haiti
Several Menlo Park businesses will hold fundraisers on Sunday, March 14, to aid reconstruction efforts in Haiti.
Cedro Ristorante (1010 El Camino Real) will hold a pancake breakfast from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. that day, with all profits going to nonprofits in Haiti.
A portion of purchases made between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on March 14 at the following businesses will also go to the relief effort: Cafe Borrone, Cafe Zoe, Ann's Coffee Shop, the British Bankers Club, Ela Lingerie, and Cheeky Monkey toys.
Money raised will be split evenly between Partners in Health, which has run health clinics in Haiti for over 20 years, and Whirlwind Wheelchairs International, which is providing "all-terrain wheelchairs" to people who lost limbs in the earthquake.
Spring Fling at Filoli
Three greenhouses containing plants that have been in Filoli's collection from 1920 to the present will be open during the annual Spring Fling at the historic Woodside estate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 20.
The family-focused event will feature live music groups, puppet and magic shows, and garden tours. Children may also take home pots that they have planted and decorated.
Tickets are $20 for members, $25 for non-members, $5 for children ages 5 to 17, free for age 4 and under. Tickets may be purchased online at www.filoli.org or by calling 364-8300, ext. 508. Box lunches are $18 for adults and $10 for children, and must be ordered in advance.
Filoli is at 86 Canada Road in Woodside.
Military Vocations Mass
St. Raymond Catholic Church will hold a military vocations Mass at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, March 13. The Mass will be attended by soldiers from all over the country who are thinking about pursuing a religious vocation and who are attending a retreat at St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park. The Mass will also honor all veterans and those currently in service.
After Mass, a dinner will be held at the Kennedy Center on the St. Raymond campus. Dinner tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children.

White elephant sale
Household items, jewelry, handbags, luggage, and books will be among the items in a white elephant sale to be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Little House, 800 Middle Ave., in Menlo Park.
Little House will also celebrate St. Patrick's Day on March 17 with a corned beef and cabbage luncheon and Irish coffee. For more information, call 326-2025.
Riding clinic
Nick Karazissis will give a three-day riding clinic at Spring Down Equestrian Center March 30-April 1. Mr. Karazissis is a hunter/jumper trainer who holds clinics at Spring Down three times a year. Cost is $280 for three days, with the rider providing his own horse. For further information, call 851-1114.
Horse show
Spring Down Equestrian Center will hold its spring horse show from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at 725 Portola Road in Portola Valley. Entry fee is $15 per class before March 14 and $20 after. Classes range from beginning lead line to hunter/jumper. For more information, call 851-1114.
