Gordon Russell saluted for lifetime of achievement

Bookmark and Share
Portola Valley resident and venture capitalist Gordon Russell is one of six honorees in this year's "Lifetimes of Achievement" awards for outstanding contributions to their communities, given annually by the nonprofit Palo Alto-based Avenidas, which serves the elderly of the Midpeninsula and their families.

The honorees were chosen from among 39 nominees and announced at a private reception on Thursday, Feb. 10, in Palo Alto. A garden party to which the public is invited is set for May 16 at Avenidas, 450 Bryant St.

Go to avenidas.org for more information.

Mr. Russell has a bachelor of arts degree from Dartmouth College, where he is a member of the school's Native American Visiting Committee and President's Leadership Council. He has chaired the school's medical school board of overseers.

He has held several executive positions in the biomedical and health care industries and was, for more than 20 years, a general partner at Sequoia Capital.

Locally, he has served as a volunteer for health care initiatives and was a board member of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation and East Palo Alto's Ravenswood Family Health Center, a nonprofit that treats recent immigrants and the uninsured.

He is the father of one son and two stepsons, one of whom is the current mayor of Vancouver, Canada, site of the 2010 winter Olympics.
