Mitchell Johnson paintings on exhibit at Flea Street Cafe
Fine food and fine art come together at Flea Street Cafe in West Menlo Park: Paintings by Mitchell Johnson will be exhibited through April at Jesse Cool's flagship restaurant — just down the Alameda de las Pulgas from Mr. Johnson's home.
"To have some paintings up at Flea Street is nice, because a lot of my shows are out of the area," said Mr. Johnson, a longtime Menlo Park resident.
One such out-of-town show is currently featured at the Royal Danish Embassy in Washington, D.C., through April 26.
Mr. Johnson has exhibited his work throughout the Bay Area and in many areas of the United States and Europe, particularly in Italy, where he has for years spent much time painting the Tuscan landscape.
But one can also view Mr. Johnson's work from the comfort of the living room sofa, with the help of a DVD player. Three of his paintings played a role in the recent film "It's Complicated," starring Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. The landscapes — two from France and one from Denmark — were hung in the "home" of a key character in the movie, Mr. Johnson said.
