AYSO registration; new VIP league
The Menlo Park and Atherton American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) will hold its annual walk-in registration between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, May 8, and Saturday, May 22, in the library at Hillview Middle School, at Elder and Santa Cruz avenues in Menlo Park.
For first-time registration, bring proof of a child's date of birth, such as a birth certificate, passport, or immunization record. If a child was registered in Region 109 last year, proof of birth is not necessary, but registration forms are needed.
Starting May 1, registration forms can be accessed on www.mpsoccer.org.
New VIP league
The AYSO Very Important Players (VIP) program provides soccer for children and adults whose physical or mental differences make it difficult to take part in mainstream teams. VIP teams may include: blind or visually impaired, mobility impaired, mentally or emotionally challenged, autistic, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and more.
The Menlo Park soccer league wants to implement the program in this area and would like to get an indication of the level of interest.
Send inquiries to vip@mpsoccer.org.
Kinderleague
Last year more than 300 children, ages 4 1/2 to 5, played on 20 local teams. To be eligible, a child must be born between Aug. 1, 2004, and Jan. 31, 2006. Boys and girls play separately on single-sex teams. Each player must be accompanied by a parent or other adult at the games each Saturday.
