SamTrans' new outreach for seniors
Faced with budget deficits that have led to service cuts and fare hikes in recent years, SamTrans is working harder to entice senior citizens to take the bus.
The transit district launched a federally funded, volunteer-led program in the fall, with 10 volunteers working one-on-one with senior citizens and people with disabilities to plan public transportation trips, SamTrans said in a press release. The volunteers also accompany seniors on those trips to show them the ropes.
The volunteers work out of several Peninsula locations, including the Little House Activity Center and the Menlo Park Senior Center.
