This information was submitted by Boy Scouts of America Troop 222 of Menlo Park.

Boy Scout Troop 222 of Menlo Park recently held an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Ethan Banich, Dan Kozlowski and Tim Benton.

Ethan and Dan grew up in Menlo Park, and Tim grew up in Redwood City. All were in Cub Pack 222 before joining the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church-sponsored Troop 222.

To reach the rank of Eagle Scout, these young men earned a minimum of 21 merit badges, served as a troop leader for six months, and planned, developed and led a community, school or religious service project.

Ethan Banich

In 2007, Ethan transitioned from Troop 222 to Venturing Crew 222, where he serves as president. Ethan's Eagle Scout Project was rebuilding six park benches at the Reading Park, located next to the Atherton Library.

An honor roll senior at Menlo-Atherton High School, Ethan likes to play guitar and skateboard. In September, he will attend either Purdue or the University of California, where he plans to major in aerospace engineering.

He is the son of Ann and Steve Banich and has a brother, Jason, who is also an Eagle Scout.

Dan Kozlowski

Dan's Eagle Scout Project was refurbishing an outdoor reading area at the Atherton Library. This project involved milling wood from local fallen trees to restore six benches, and repainting and replanting planters. A total of 273 service hours were earned by 24 members and supporters of Troop 222.

A senior at Menlo-Atherton High School, he is a member of the varsity badminton team. He has been on the Principal's Honor Roll (grade point average 4.0 or higher) his entire high school career. He is a National Merit Commended Scholar and an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, and has been nominated to be a Presidential Scholar.

Dan is a member of the M-A Quiz Bowl Team that participates in televised matches hosted by a local TV station.

The son of Lanette and John Kozlowski, he has a brother, Tom, who is also an Eagle Scout. Dan says he looks forward to a college career in engineering and possibly law.

Tim Benton

Tim's Eagle Scout Project was to refurbish a school garden for East Palo Alto Preparatory Charter School. The project involved clearing an overgrown garden, chopping down two trees, prepping and turning soil in six raised planters, digging a trench to provide a water supply closer to the garden, cleaning a greenhouse, painting a fence, and planning and planting the raised beds.

A junior at Menlo School, he has participated in varsity football, basketball and baseball. He was a wide receiver on an all-conference football team.

He participates in Menlo's boys chorus and is part of the school newspaper staff. His collegiate ambitions include majoring in history or business, and playing football.

A fourth-generation Eagle Scout, he is the son of Beverlee Hastings of Redwood City and Thomas Benton of San Jose.

Troop 222 has 55 active Scouts.
