Kiwanis Club awards $41,000 in scholarships
The Kiwanis Club of Menlo Park has awarded $41,000 in scholarships to eight seniors from Menlo-Atherton High School, according to an announcement from the club.
The M-A students chosen this year are Allison Malathong, Chloe Peters, Gonzalo Alvarez, Victoria Fakalata, Ana Mark da Silva, Camille Zolopa, Andrea Huerta and Mako Kuwabara. The club's statement did not go into detail as to the distribution of the scholarship money.
The Kiwanis have awarded over $500,000 in scholarships since the program began, and gave $10,000 earlier this year to the Ravenswood Education Foundation to help pay for extended school hours for the Ravenswood City School District in East Palo Alto and Menlo Park, the club said.
Among the 50 or so causes in which the Kiwanis Club has involved itself: Project Read, English in Action, St. Anthony's dining room, the Al Julian track-and-field games in East Palo Alto, the Special Olympic games at De Anza College, and Rebuilding Together.
