Letter: Please keep the quaint look of Menlo Park
I love living, shopping, strolling around the quaint town of Menlo Park. I am in a state of dismay that the City Council has proposed a plan to alter the home-town, quaint look of our neighboring town of Menlo Park.
I am not the "stand-on-boxes street corner type of person." I am just young at heart, and a senior citizen resident who loves Menlo Park's quaintness and homey atmosphere.
Council members, men and women of Menlo Park: Please don't change the looks of this fine city. Who is it exactly who is complaining about or imagining that the people of Menlo Park and the surrounding areas want to indeed have or need a redevelopment plan for Menlo Park's downtown?
When I think of how hard the late beloved Frank Draeger and family, Mark Flegal and family, and owners of all the small businesses in downtown Menlo Park, worked to make the city what it is today, and the possible threat to the Sunday farmers' market — I just feel ill.
I do wholeheartedly believe in progress, but in this case — what seems to appear as progress is really destruction.
