“Heroes and Horses; A Jewel & Jeans” gala will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at the National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy (NCEFT) facility at 880 Runnymede Road in Woodside. Proceeds from the benefit will support the center’s equine-assisted therapy.

Cocktails and dinner will be followed by dancing to the music of Fred McCarty & Company. Guests are encouraged to wear Western attire.

Susan Lang of Woodside will be honored as the first recipient of the Barb Heine outstanding service award. Ms. Lang is an occupational therapist and equestrian.

“Susan is the ideal recipient of this first award established in Barb’s honor,” says Gari Merendino, executive director of NCEFT.

Ms. Heine, who died of cancer in March, was executive director and board president of NCEFT. She was a longtime resident of Woodside before moving to Australia 10 years ago.

Nicole Buttitta is chairman of the gala, assisted by Betsy Glikbarg, Susan Martin, and Suzanne Rischman. Tickets to the benefit are $200 per person. For more information, call Ms. Buttitta at 851-0444.
