Philz Coffee expanding to Redwood City

Uploaded: Jan 8, 2015
Bay Area caffeine darling Philz Coffee is kicking off 2015 with big expansion plans, including a new location slated to open this February in Redwood City.

Philz CEO Jacob Jaber said the Redwood City location at 2114 Broadway St. will be a "very special store."

"We're going to be doing what we do best – making sure that we have a great team of people who craft the perfect cup (of coffee) and provide a really comfortable environment for people in Redwood City," Jaber said. "There's not a lot of that there. Philz usually does naturally a good job of bringing people together.

"I really think we'll be able to help tighten the community a little bit. That's why it's going to be really special."

Philz Redwood City will inhabit an 1,800-square-foot retail space on the ground floor of the Broadway Street building, which was originally built in 1917 and recently renovated, Jaber said. Their upstairs neighbors will be startups.

Redwood City will be the 18th Philz, joining numerous locations in San Francisco (where the slow-drip, personalized coffee shop was born in 2003), two in Palo Alto and others throughout the South and East Bay. Philz also took a first step into Southern California last year with a location in Santa Monica.

A Los Gatos outpost is also opening in February, as well as a few more in San Francisco, Oakland and Los Angeles, Jaber said.

"...and provide a really comfortable environment for people in Redwood City," Jaber said. "There's not a lot of that there."

How about
LaTartine
Pamplemousse
Back Yard Coffee
Bliss Coffee
Talk of the Broadway (talk about community kinda place)
Lutticken's (where Main Street Coffee used to be)

these all are independent, small(er) businesses, no chain coffee houses right downtown, more to try near by.
Hey! but fear not, Starbucks and Peet's are present also.

Yes, I do live in Redwood City, work here too.
And I love all the smaller coffee houses mentioned above, they are all comfy and nice places to enjoy a cup of good coffee.
