A Danish juice and coffee chain in the midst of a significant expansion effort in the United States is planning to open an outpost in downtown Palo Alto this fall, a company spokesperson confirmed.

Joe & The Juice, which got its start in Copenhagen in 2002, plans to open on University Avenue. The deal on the specific space is not yet finalized.

Joe & The Juice serves fruit and vegetable juices, smoothies, sandwiches and coffee. Check out the menu here.

Joe & The Juice is striving for a particular image to set itself apart from other juice and coffee establishments. Kasper Garnell, head of branding and communication, told Eater SF that while “other cold-pressed juice bars are very clinical and like going into a pharmacy,” Joe & The Juice is hoping to provide a social space for people to hang out. A recent announcement for the company’s 200th location in London immodestly describes Joe & The Juice as a “beacon for millennials and urban trendsetters.”

Joe & The Juice also selects its employees from casting events, with recruiting videos that make statements like, “this is not just a job; this is a culture.” Impassioned employee blog posts describe the company as a “crazy family” and the castings as “filled with high energy, loud music, a lot of screaming (in a good way) and a bunch of juice and cups flying everywhere.”

The international chain has opened four locations in San Francisco this year, with two more on the way to the City and another to Burlingame, in addition to Palo Alto, said Mads Højmark, the company’s branding and communication manager. Joe & The Juice plans to open 25 new locations across the United States in 2017.

When asked why the company chose to open in Palo Alto, Højmark said it’s because “we think there is a perfect match between Palo Alto and our brand.”

The Palo Alto outpost will have the same menu as other locations.

They’re aiming for a mid-November opening, but as these things go, “nothing is confirmed yet,” Højmark said.
