Saying goodbye to Toys R Us

Uploaded: Mar 30, 2018
Last weekend our family went to Toys R Us. We didn't buy anything, we just wanted our kids to be able to enjoy the store while it still looked like the Toys R Us they remembered. Filled with seemingly endless rows of toys.

We don't know what will happen at the Redwood City location, but it's clear that the store is changing. Discount signs were posted all over the store and there was a long checkout line that reminded me of holiday shopping.

One of my favorite memories from Babies R Us was when our son was a little over a week old. My parents came to help me while my husband went back to work. My mom wanted to make sure I was comfortable taking baby out during the day. So, one of the first things we did when she arrived was to run some errands, including a stop at Babies R Us. I don't remember what we bought, but I remember it feeling like a successful outing. Babies R Us had a comfortable place for me to nurse and change baby. I knew I could simply buy anything that I accidentally left at home. And I wasn't worried about whether baby became fussy at checkout because most of the other shoppers were parents who knew the challenges of shopping with a new baby.

I don't remember shopping at Toys R Us or Babies R Us very often, but I do remember this trip and the confidence it gave me. I knew I would be able to take our newborn out and meet other new parents when my parents returned home. I found a comfortable place where I could nurse, change baby's diaper and pick up a couple of necessities before continuing with our day. And, for that, I am very thankful for Babies R Us.

Do you have any favorite memories from Toys R Us or Babies R Us?
We need your support now more than ever. Can we count on you?
