Lessons from visiting great grandma

Uploaded: Aug 22, 2019
Last month I had the privilege of spending time with our daughters and their great grandparents. My parents took our oldest to a museum while the girls and I had a more relaxing day.

Seeing my grandmother interact with her great granddaughters was truly magical. She was just soaking it all in. She repeatedly counted to 60 as our youngest threw 60 marbles into a box over and over again. She counted as our middle child jumped up and down over and over again in the swimming pool. She clapped as our girls ran down the hallway and performed dances in her living room. She patiently sat and watched us play with Barbies, she read stories to our youngest, and she marveled at scribble drawings. I wish I had her patience day in and day out.

Parenting brings us together. And sometimes seeing someone else nurture your kids helps you appreciate both your kids and that person that much more. Seeing my grandmother adore her great grandchildren and really love all of the simple daily activities that I take for granted reminded me how quickly childhood and life go by. As the new school year begins I hope I can still find moments to just pause, soak it all in, and enjoy.
We need your support now more than ever. Can we count on you?
