South San Francisco's Brothers Cafe expands to San Mateo, with a Millbrae location coming soon

Brothers Cafe, formerly known as Cafe 382 in South San Francisco, has rebranded and is expanding to new locations in San Mateo and Millbrae.

The San Mateo restaurant opened recently, while a Millbrae outpost is in the works and slated to open in the new year at the Millbrae Square Shopping Center.

The new restaurant name is an ode to its owners, brothers Kosta and Billy Panos. They started Cafe 382 together in 2016 and renamed it as they've been expanding to new locations.

They are first-generation Greek Americans who come from a family in the restaurant business: Their parents owned and operated the Sugar Plum in Laurel Heights and the Lakeside Cafe. Billy also co-founded and owns Boulevard Cafe in Daly City, according to their website.

The restaurants offer breakfast and lunch daily until 3 p.m. and specialize in comfort food that's sourced nearby. When it comes to breakfast, their menu boasts sweet offerings like brioche and Bananas Foster French toast varieties, along with Swedish, oatmeal or buttermilk pancakes, plus waffles.

On the savory side, they've got a selection of hearty breakfast sandwiches, egg scrambles and benedicts, plus diner staples like huevos rancheros, biscuits and gravy and country-fried steak. Lunch items include pastas, burgers, sandwiches, salads and more.

The South San Francisco location also has a taproom currently offering 16 beers and ciders that's open Tuesday through Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m.
