Two Hours - 75,000 Meals – Wanna Help?

Uploaded: Sep 15, 2023
75,000 meals in TWO HOURS.

That’s the goal at Christ Church Episcopal in Portola Valley and Rise Against Hunger; to assemble 15,000 food kits (each holds 5 meals) that will be sent to the hungry worldwide.

Date: Saturday September 30th
Time: 10 AM – Noon
Place: Portola Valley Community Center

This year the need is especially urgent with Russia blocking food deliveries from Ukraine. The effort needs YOU, your kids, your relatives, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Everyone! After assembling the meals, we will gather at Christ Church for a post-celebratory lunch.

All ages welcome from any faith tradition or no tradition.

Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief non-profit that coordinates the packaging and distribution of food and other aid to people in developing nations. In 2022 Rise Against Hunger distributed 67.6 million meals to over 4 million people in Central America, Asia and Africa.

I imagine the food shipments will be comprised of dry ingredients or freeze-dried. You cannot ship 75,000 meals with fresh ingredients that far away sans any refrigeration.

Another option would be to send dehydrated backpacking foods or those ready-to-eat meals that they serve in the military.

It is more important to ensure that hunger in America is fully addressed and resolved.

Whatever occurs in Ukraine is their problem. The United States has contributed over $100B to the Ukraine war effort and some of money could go towards food rather than ammunitions.

Meanwhile the residents of Maui have received only $2.5M from FEMA.

Talk about misplaced priorities.

Charity begins at home.

^ UNICEF should be handling this responsibility. Americans should be focusing on our own national hunger issues.
