A day for readingUploaded: Feb 8, 2016
Last week I planned on taking our kids to the library once, but ended up taking them three times within about a 24 hour period. Our daughter lost her shoe during the first outing so we returned later that day to pick it up (along with some more books). And the next morning we went back to pick up a book on hold that our son was eager to read. While we frequently visit our local libraries and bookstores, this was a record for us.
A few months ago, while my kids and I were waiting for a library to open, a friend pointed out how nice it is to live in an area where there is a line of children eagerly waiting in front of the library. It's moments like this that remind us just how lucky we are to be where people value reading so much.
I recently read an article about Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day and heard about Take Your Child to the Library Day. What wonderful ways to share the love of reading with kids who don't visit these places frequently or at all.
While I've enjoyed reading many books to our kids, I'm also looking forward to the next stage - when our kids read books to me and we all read books quietly to ourselves. I'm sure this hope will turn into a reality before I know it.
How do you share your love of reading with your kids?
