Resting with little ones at home

Uploaded: Nov 2, 2016

Last month I had a mole removed from my toe. It was very minor surgery but resting my foot with little ones at home was not easy.

My doctor warned me that it usually takes about 4 weeks to recover from this procedure. And, at least at first, I would need to keep my foot elevated almost constantly.

Kicking a soccer ball or throwing a frisbee with our son was out of the question. Searching for ants, slugs and pillbugs with our daughter had to wait until I could stand for longer periods of time and run after her if she decided to dart off.

There is never a convenient time to get surgery, even a minor one. But, luckily, Halloween happened to be roughly 4 weeks after the procedure, when my toe was expected to be mostly healed. I didn't realize it when I scheduled the surgery, but recovering while looking forward to and preparing for Halloween was the perfect way to keep our spirits up and our kids busy.

Thankfully my toe recovered enough for our family to enjoy many of the local Halloween events this year, even in the rain. After resting so much in October I'm especially looking forward to running around with our kids this November as we get ready to celebrate more holidays with family and friends.
