Checklist before baby arrives

When I was pregnant with our first, I read a lot of books and articles about pregnancy and labor. But, looking back, I wish I had been more informed about the benefits of hiring a doula, having a birth plan, and normal newborn eating and sleeping behaviors.

When I was pregnant with our second child I read a lot about how to help our son adjust to becoming a big brother. I was thankful to have a doula, birth plan, and postpartum doula to help us during the transition from a family of three to a family of four.

This time around I'm focusing on taking care of myself before baby arrives. I went to the dentist, got my hair cut, enjoyed a massage, bought a new phone, bought new non-maternity clothes and invited friends over for dinner.

The last few weeks of pregnancy can, depending on the day, feel like months or mere seconds. I feel very lucky to be able to take some time for myself before baby arrives. Before scheduling these appointments and making these purchases becomes a bit more of a challenge.
