Vida, a new restaurant highlighting tapas and cocktails, is coming to Mountain View’s Castro Street.
The concept is one the owners of the nearby Doppio Zero pizzeria on Castro Street – Gianni Chiloiro and Angelo Sannino – have had in mind for a few years, Chiloiro says.
The opportunity came when Xanh, a Vietnamese restaurant that reopened in downtown Mountain View last year after being closed for more than a year due to the pandemic, closed permanently. The restaurant had reopened under new ownership with a limited menu, cutting its lunch buffet and opening for dinner only on weekends.
When it opens, Vida’s menu will highlight craft cocktails, sangria and wine as well as Spanish, Californian and Mediterranean-inspired tapas. It will also feature meat, seafood and vegetarian-based paellas, grilled fish and Spanish desserts. The menu is still being finalized, he adds.
Meanwhile, the restaurant’s interior has been renovated with the input of local architect Oswaldo Mesia. It will be divided into three sections with a bar, dining area and private space. There will be leather booths and a mural by Chiloiro’s daughter, Daniela, he says.
“It’ll be a really cool place to come in and relax,” he says.
The goal is to operate the restaurant as a cocktail bar and as a sit-down restaurant, and they plan to host events including monthly wine dinners, live music, weekday happy hours and weekend brunch. It’s set to seat around 120 people indoors, with an outdoor deck to accommodate 40 more.
They’re hoping to open around the third week of January but are still finishing up with inspections.
“We hope to create a great restaurant product that people love and will complement the vibrant Castro Street business district,” Angelo adds in a recent press release.
