One-act plays at Burgess

Two one-act plays by Bay Area playwrights will be staged by Menlo Players Guild beginning Thursday, April 2, at Menlo Park's Burgess Theatre, 601 Laurel St.

"Blue Morphine," by Oakland-based playwright Daniel Weber, is a drama set in Portland. Two 1960s counter-culture types meet up with a 1990s slacker as winter approaches.

"This Isn't Funny," by Redwood City actor and musician James Coulter, is a comedy featuring a man and a woman trapped in an elevator at 5 p.m. on a Friday. The man is a bizarre cartoonist and the woman is a CEO.

The plays are part of MPG's studio series, and are performed with the audience seated onstage. Dean Burgi, who started MPG's studio performance series to highlight work by local playwrights, will direct the plays.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. April 2-4 and April 9-11.

Tickets are $8, general; and $6, students and seniors.

Reservations are recommended. Call 322-3261.
