The Peninsula Joint Powers Board, which runs Caltrain, will hold a public hearing Thursday, April 2, on a package of proposed fare increases aimed at raising revenues by $800,000 a year. The hearing will start at 10 a.m. in the SamTrans headquarters, 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San Carlos.
Proposals include a 5 percent across-the-board fare increase; a 50-cent increase in daily parking to $1; and elimination of a 1.89 percent discount on the popular Ticket-By-Mail Program.
Caltrain is also considering adding service on Friday and Sunday evenings. Other planned improvements over the next fiscal year include three new parking lots at Palo Alto, Hillsdale and Broadway; service at the new San Antonio Station in Mountain View; and 300 new bicycle lockers.
