Book chats, sales, puppets at Woodside Library

By KATE DALY

The Woodside Library is planning a number of events to celebrate the 40th National Library Week, which starts April 19.

This year's theme is "Local Touch -- Global Reach," and the Woodside Library is kicking things off early. At 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, Branch Manager Virginia Soletti is hosting the first in a series of informal book discussion over coffee. People are invited to drop by and chat about what they're reading. The book chats are planned for the first Tuesday of the month.

Book sale

You'll soon see extra piles of books amassing in the Woodside Library as The Friends of the Woodside Library gets ready for the annual book sale. The event is open to members only on Friday, April 17, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. People can join at the door for as little as $10 a year.

The sale is open to the public on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. With hardbacks priced at $1 and paperbacks 25 cents, there will be many bargains in all subjects ranging from best sellers to self-help.

Music, puppets

Woodside Library is putting on two special events the following week: Families are invited to a program of Latin American music and food at 7 p.m. Monday, April 20. Then, at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, Johnson Brothers Puppets will perform the African folk tale, "Akimba and the Magic Cow," for ages 3 and up.

At the Portola Valley Library, the music group ZunZun will play South and Central American music for ages 3 and up, at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21.
