Brian Thomas Leach, age 37, of Lodi, was found dead from gunshot wounds at the base of the Dumbarton bridge at approximately 6:40 p.m. on August 20, in what Menlo Park police said is an apparent suicide case. Mr. Leach had a wound in his chest and another in the head. He was holding a loaded gun and a brief suicide note.
The case is being investigated by Menlo Park detectives as a potential homicide because of the second shot, police said. Mr. Leach has, however, attempted suicide in the past. In 1991 he was found in the same location and car, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
