Alpine Hills Tennis Club competes at NorCal event

Alpine Hills Tennis Club in Portola Valley has wrapped up another successful season, reports Coach Chris Bradley.
The club qualified for the recent U.S. Tennis Association/NorCal Junior League championships in Sacramento in these age divisions -- girls-12, boys-12, boys-15, and boys-18.

Girls-12
In the girls age-12 category, Alpine also reached the semi-finals. Alpine beat Del Rio of Modesto in the quarterfinals, 7-2, and lost a close 5-4 match to the eventual champions, Sierra Sport and Racquet Club of Fresno.
Local participants were Sammy Rosecrans, Julia Martin and Maddy Rozwat of Woodside; Lexi Smith and Brooke Selling of Portola Valley; and Jessica Hazlett and Emily Mesirow of Menlo Park. Amanda Hughes and Mara Nissinoff, both of Menlo Park, and Amanda Pade of Woodside, helped the team win the local league.
Boys-12
In the boys-12 category, Alpine won two matches and reached the semifinals. Alpine beat Copper River of Fresno, 7-2, and Gold River of Sacramento, 5-4, but lost in the semifinals to Courtside of Los Gatos, which won the championships.
The following local boys played: Scott Blumenkranz and Matt Lin of Portola Valley; Dougie Adams and Tommy Phillips of Woodside; Matt Paul and Evan Kelso of Menlo Park; and Deitrick Graumann of Atherton. Arif Virani and Ian Whyburn, both of Menlo Park, and Matt Hartman of Woodside, helped the team to its undefeated record prior the championships.
Boys-15
The boys age-15 team lost to Rolling Hills from Marin County, 6-3. The following were local participants: David Kaplan, David Oehm, Brady Cohan, Josh Hohl and Jeff Nichols of Menlo Park; Peter Mayer of Portola Valley; and Chris Bingham of Woodside.
Boys-18
The boys age-18 team won its first match, defeating Twin Arbors of Lodi, 9-0, and, like the boys-15 team, lost to the eventual finalist, Rio Del Oro, in a 6-3 match. Darren Lachtman and Eric Barry of Portola Valley played in the championship. Patrick Deggelman of Portola Valley and Jeff Rogers of Menlo Park played in the local league.
Junior Fall Classic
The club also took part in the Alpine Hills Junior Fall Classic, which attracted about 350 participants August 10-14. In the boys 12s doubles, Scott Blumenkranz of Portola Valley and Dougie Adams of Woodside were champions. William O'Shea, formerly of Woodside, and Chris Bingham of Woodside were finalists in boys 14s doubles. David Oehm of Menlo Park was a semi-finalist in boys 14s doubles. Preston Walters of Atherton was a finalist in boys 18s doubles.
In the girls 16s singles, Michelle Leutzinger of Menlo Park was a finalist. In the girls 18s singles, her sister, Jessica Leutzinger, was a finalist as well.
Steve Deggelman, Aoife Wilson, Tanya Gacs, David Higaki, Corinne Mansourian, Brett Shepardson, Doug French and Scott Jacobs coached the team.
