In celebration of African-American history month, Menlo College is hosting a panel discussion and performance by South Bay artists, to be held Tuesday, February 23. The panel discussion -- "What's the Rap? Hip-hop culture!" -- will explore the contribution hip-hop music has made to African-American culture. Panelists include: Props, who is managing editor of a Bay Area music magazine; Keisha Evans, former member of the Ravenswood School Board and co-owner of a Palo Alto African goods store; Kalamu Chache, poet and artist; and Devon Sanders, Elite model and aspiring actor.
Hip-hop, rap, and R&B artists from the South Bay will perform. Featured performers are Parrallax, Persia, DNA, Malika, and Smartz, who is often featured at The Phoenix Club in San Jose.
The discussion and performance, which is open to the public, will be held in the college's Student Union and starts at 8 p.m. Menlo College is located at 1000 El Camino Real in Atherton. Call 617-2354 for more information.
