Former City Council candidate Toni Stein and software consultant Stuart Soffer were named to the Menlo Park Planning Commission February 16.
Ms. Stein and Mr. Soffer will serve four-year and 20-month terms, respectively. They were appointed by the City Council to fill the seats vacated by Nicholas Jellins and Mary Jo Borak, who were elected to the City Council.
The Planning Commission is a seven-member commission that grants use permits, recommends changes to the zoning ordinance, and monitors issues related to land use, planning and development.
Ms. Stein, an environmental engineer, currently serves on the Solid Waste Advisory Committee and is a member of the Air and Waste Management Association. Her environmental background, with specialization in air pollution, will provide a "valuable perspective on planning and land use issues," she said.
Ms. Stein ran for the City Council last year, coming in a close fifth place.
Mr. Soffer, a software consultant, said that he is interested in providing an "evaluative and watchdog role on the Planning Commission to ensure that residents get due consideration." He says he advocates a high-quality of life for Menlo Park residents.
