SF Youth Symphony benefit in Woodside SF Youth Symphony benefit in Woodside (April 21, 1999)

Woodside's Runnymede Farm is the setting for a dinner dance to benefit the San Francisco Youth Orchestra on Saturday, May 1. Called "Much Ado about Music," the event is co-chaired by two local young women, Carolyn Davidow Putney, who grew up in Atherton and lives in Menlo Park, and Elizabeth Folger, who grew up in Woodside.

Mrs. Putney also headed last year's Youth Symphony benefit, "An Equestrian Overture," held at Portola Valley Training Center. "By holding our events here (Woodside and Portola Valley), we hope to entice Peninsula people and their families back to the symphony," she says.

The evening will honor Agnes Albert, longtime San Francisco Symphony board member and "inspirational leader" of the Youth Orchestra, who is, herself, a pianist.

The Youth Orchestra, whose musicians range in age from 12 to 21, gives performances at least three times a year and tours Europe every three years. The 100-piece ensemble will be on hand at Runnymede to entertain guests during the cocktail hour and silent auction to begin at 6:30 p.m.

McCall and Associates are catering the dinner, to be served at 7:30 p.m. in a tented area in the courtyard of the historic Runnymede Stables. There will be informal modeling by Lily Samii Designs and dancing to the music of Black Market Jazz Orchestra.

Because it is an evening party, guests will not be touring the farm's sculpture garden, but there will be sculptures on display at the entrance of the Rosekrans family's estate and in the stable area.

The event's honorary committee includes: Christine Lamond and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schwab of Atherton; Patty and Eff Martin, and Mr. and Mrs. John Rosekrans of Woodside. Carolyn Putney and Elizabeth Folger's committee includes: Bill and Sonja Davidow, Sue Foley, Andrew and Becky Davidow Logan, and Marcia Messner, all of Woodside, and Sylvia Hochscheid of Menlo Park. The Davidow Family Foundation and Goldman, Sachs and Co., which just opened a new office in Menlo Park, are underwriting the benefit.

Tickets are $130 per person. For reservations or more information call Amy Smith in the San Francisco Symphony Volunteer Council, 415-552-8000, ext. 503.
