La Entrada School graduates La Entrada School graduates (June 16, 1999)

Eighth-graders at La Entrada School in Menlo Park received their diplomas during outdoor ceremonies June 9 on the school's blacktop.

Keeping a La Entrada tradition, the program featured the students, who gave speeches, sang "Show Me The Way," rang handbells and played a piano solo.

Corinne Salera, student body secretary opened the program by leading the class and audience in the flag salute. Superintendent Mary Ann Somerville of the Las Lomitas School District welcomed the students, parents and their friends. Principal Patty Boettcher and Vice Principal Lesley Crane presented the student awards.

Lauren Blears, student body treasurer, introduced students selected as graduation speakers. They were Katie Hemmerling, Jeannie Urban, Alice Pencavel, David Forrest and Noga Shaanan. As a class assignment, all eighth-graders had written an essay on significant things in their lives; the speakers were chosen by teachers after they read the essays without knowing who wrote them.

Meghan Plunkett played Scott Joplin s "Maple Leaf Rag" on the piano and then, as class president, gave a speech about La Entrada.

Principal Boettcher presented the graduating class to Elyce Haskell, president of the Las Lomitas district school board, who awarded the diplomas.

Singing together as the Eighth Grade Choraliers were: Noelle, Alyassini, Lauren Blears, Caroline Coolidge, Danielle Cuisinot, Kate Doherty, Atlee Hubbard, Marissa Jacobus, Noga Shaanan, Mina Yazdi, Cassie Kosofsky, Dana Maynard, Lindsey Merendino, Katie Mosher, Meghan Plunkett, Valeria Romo, Sally Schwartz and Marivsha Ware.
