Dinner and dancing under the full moon will launch the fall season at the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts at Stanford on Saturday, September 25. "Rodin by Moonlight" will be a dinner dance in the Rodin Sculpture Garden, with cuisine by Michael French of Spago Palo Alto. Proceeds will support the center's programs of education, exhibitions and publications.
"Rodin by Moonlight" begins at 7 p.m. with cocktails inside the center, followed by dinner and dancing to "Tongue in Chic" in the garden. Entertainers will stroll among the guests. Tickets are $350, $500 and $1,000 per person. For more information, call 725-7304.
Fall kitchen tour. Five new kitchens in Crescent Park homes in Palo Alto will be on tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, September 18. Sponsored by the Senior Center Auxiliary of Avenidas, Palo Alto, the tour includes two homes designed by retirees for their own needs. Horse trials. Hundreds of horses and riders from all over the West Coast, will take part in the Whiskey Hill Autumn Horse Trials at the CTETA horse park in Woodside Friday through Sunday, September 17, 18 and 19. The horse park is the only advanced-level cross-country course west of the Mississippi.
Dressage on Friday will be followed by cross-country jumping on Saturday, and stadium jumping on Sunday. Woodside's National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy will benefit from the three-day event with a demonstration on Sunday by the children enrolled in the program.
The public in invited to attend the trials which will include the Inaugural Woodside Community Challenge Cup. The trials pit riders from the sheriff's department, fire department, American Medical Response (paramedics), and Woodside Mounted Patrol in a race through an obstacle course.
For dog lovers there will be a dog herding demonstration and a "Pint-size Dog Derby" open to breeds measuring 18 inches or less at the shoulder. An owner may enter his dog for a $5 fee to race for the $100 first prize and trophy.
The trials will be held at 3674 Sand Hill Road, just west of Interstate 280, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Parking is $5. For more information, call 306-0561.
