Atherton cyclist dies after hit-and-run Atherton cyclist dies after hit-and-run (March 01, 2000)

An Atherton bicyclist, stuck by a car February 23 in a hit-and-run accident on Middlefield Road, died at Stanford Hospital February 25.

Ximing Chen, 80, suffered severe head injuries after witnesses said a gold Lexus hit him on February 23 as he attempted to cross Middlefield, south of Glenwod Avenue in Atherton, to join his wife. The two were riding their bicycles on Middlefield on their way home, said Lieutenant Pat McTaggart of Atherton police.

A Redwood City woman, 79-year-old Kathrine A. Dugoni, was taken into custody and released last week after questioning. The case has been sent to the district attorney's office for further investigation, said Lt. McTaggart.
