Graduation 2000: Woodside Elementary School Graduation 2000: Woodside Elementary School (June 14, 2000)

Eighth-graders will graduate from Woodside Elementary School on Friday, June 16, during traditional ceremonies, beginning at 5:30 p.m., in the school's amphitheater.

The Woodside School Band, directed by Richard Vaughan, will play the processional as the eighth-graders enter the amphitheater. Students Laura Hansen and Morgan MacWhorter will lead the salute to the flag and the singing of the national anthem.

Again, this year, students from the graduating class were selected to give the graduation speeches. Student speakers and the titles of their speeches are: Miles Monaghan and Stavros Pardini, "Fearless"; Sarah Wendell, "Oh, the Places We'll Go!"; Krystel Astudillo and Nuritzi Sanchez, "Perspectives on Woodside Elm"; Jeremy Gessow, "Challenging Changes"; Jennifer Hart "Do Your Homework"; Stephanie Geballe and April Warren, "The Menagerie of 2000"; Jennifer Feeny, "We Wished, We Thought, We Dreamed"; Mandy Draeger, "It Takes A Village to Raise a Child"; Caitlin Fitzpatrick, "The Last Time"; Stephanie Pollio, "Race to the Future"; Ariel Miller, "First Days"; and Megan Ellison, "Friends Make All Things Possible."

For their class song, the eighth-graders will sing "You'll Be In My Heart" by Phil Collins.

During the ceremony, students will received awards. The awards and their presenters are: Woodside Academic Award, Superintendent Bruce Thompson; athletic award, Gordon Collet; community service, Karen Peterson; and trustees' award, Darlene Batchelder.

Dr. Thompson, who will be leaving next month after 14 years as superintendent and principal of the one-school district, will give the commencement address. Sharon Hobbs, principal, will present the graduating class to Dr. Thompson and Tom Mudd, district trustee, who will present the diplomas.
