Woodside High fundraiser takes off at Hiller Aviation Museum
Woodside High fundraiser takes off at Hiller Aviation Museum
(March 14, 2001) Woodside High School Foundation "soars into auction" on Saturday, March 31, to raise funds for school projects that have big impact on the school community.
This year's auction-dinner-dance, the fourth annual, moves to a new and larger venue, the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos. Partygoers will view aviation exhibits in the museum as they place bids during the silent auction.
The party begins at 7 p.m. and continues until 11 p.m., with a silent auction, dinner buffet, a short but spirited live auction, and dancing. A variety of affordable items and some special items will go to the highest bidder. Tickets are $65 per person and should be ordered in advance by calling 365-0165.
Staged by foundation board members, the benefit has become a popular event because it's a fun, casual evening and a time to met and socialize with other parents, staff, alumni and friends of Woodside High, said Marsha BonDurant, foundation president. "Black-tie and costumes aren't required," she said, inviting community members "to come dressed for a party."
Where money goes
Since its formation in 1993, the foundation has raised more than $500,000 for Woodside High School. Its mission is to "improve the quality of education at Woodside High School by raising funds for school projects that have a broad-based, substantial and lasting impact on the entire school community."
Funds have paid for computer labs for the library and the math, physics, business, foreign language and English departments; hundreds of textbooks; equipment for science, music, art, physical education and drama departments; and counseling, tutoring, communication and parent outreach.
