This information is from Atherton and Menlo Park police departments and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Under the law, people charged with offenses are considered innocent until convicted.
Atherton
Drunken driving: Joseph Michael Jr., 40, of San Francisco was arrested at the intersection of Victoria Drive and Valparaiso Avenue at midnight April 30 and booked into the county jail.
Mail tampering: A resident in the first block of Sargent Lane reported on April 23 that someone stole outgoing mail from the resident's mailbox and "washed" some checks, removing the payee and amount but leaving the signature. These checks were then photocopied and used for purchases.
Menlo Park
Drunken driving:
**Scott Hills, 39, was arrested at the intersection of Chilco Street and Bayfront Expressway at 12:30 a.m. April 28 and taken to the First Chance alcohol-treatment facility in Belmont.
**Victor Gonzales, 18, of East Palo Alto was arrested at the intersection of Runnymede Street and Cooley Avenue at 12:15 a.m. April 29 and booked into the county jail.
**Pagani Brandon, 22, of Redwood City was arrested on U.S. 101 northbound near Marsh Road at 1:15 a.m. April 27 and taken to First Chance.
**Michael Sheridan, 29, was arrested at the intersection of El Camino Real and Glenwood Avenue at 1:45 a.m. April 27 and taken to First Chance.
Battery: A woman reported that her son suffered a broken jaw when punched in the face by another juvenile at 3 p.m. May 3. Police are investigating the incident.
Residential burglary: A woman residing in the 1400 block of Mills Court reported that someone entered her home via an unlocked rear door during the night of April 20, while the family was sleeping, and stole a purse from the kitchen table.
Indecent exposure:
**A woman reported a man exposing himself on the Ringwood overpass footbridge at approximately 11:30 a.m. April 25.
**A man exposed himself in Willow Oaks Park at approximately 4:45 p.m. May 3.
West Menlo Park Area
Grand theft: A woman residing in the 2100 block of Gordon Avenue reported the theft of a digital camcorder from her residence sometime between April 1 and April 16. She believes the thief might have been a construction worker who did some work inside her home in the past.
