Dumbarton bus line canceled Dumbarton bus line canceled (May 23, 2001)

Due to low ridership, the DB2, an offshoot of the Dumbarton Express bus line, will discontinue service June 30, according to Menlo Park city officials.

Since 1998, the DB2, run by AC Transit, has been taking commuters from the Union City BART station across the Dumbarton Bridge to the Bohannon Industrial Park, the Bohannon Business Park and businesses along the Bayfront Expressway in Menlo Park.

The line needed an average of 20 riders per trip for continued funding, and it currently averages nine riders per trip, according to a city staff report. The DB2 makes four westbound trips in the morning and four eastbound afternoon trips.

But DB2 riders still will be able to reach their commute destinations by public transportation, said Jim Bigelow, who chairs the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee.

Mr. Bigelow said the Dumbarton Express and another of its offshoots, the DB1, will now stop at Sun Microsystems, at 1601 Willow Road in Menlo Park, and former DB2 commuters can get to work from that point by transferring to a shuttle.

The Dumbarton Express and the DB1 both travel between the Union City BART station and Palo Alto.
